THE REGION OF PUGLIA
Puglia, the furthest southern region found in
the heel of Italy is comprised of three provinces: Brindisi,
Taranto and Lecce. This premier
agricultural and tourist mecca centered in the coastal area of
Salento produces some of the world's finest olive
oils and wines, and is home to the group of approximately 30 producers
who have brought this celebration of taste to New York and Washington,
D.C.
The steady year
round climate of 60 degrees makes this a "must-see"
place to visit when traveling Italian Style,
but it's the cool sea breezes of the Ionian, Adriatic and Tyrrhenian
Seas that characterize the olive and wine crops that its producers
have so proudly brought to America. There are over 40 native grape
varietals, with 25 registered origins (docs) of which 9 are in
the Salento area.
Look forward to
tasting their two most famous grape varietals, Negroamaro,
and the Primitivo. You will be tasting many food
and wine pairings using the region's incredible olive oils, thanks
to the talented chefs this group has lined up for you.
Puglia
produces 13% of all olive oils world wide, and if you consider
yourself an aficionado in any way shape or form, you will want
to taste this in its original pure state and see what all the
fuss is about.
