Martine and Christian live a charmed life on this picturesque vineyard in the village known as Vacquerays. Vacqueray is a young appellation, just 10 years old, and many of the wine makers are young and want to prove that they are good. He uses only natural compost, organic growing, no pesticides, and has very healthy soil. He produces three different wines from three different parcels. (1) Vacqueyras Rouge: Cuvée Les 2 Monardes, (2) Vacqueyras Rouge: Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, (3) Vacqueyras Rose: Côtes Du Rhône Rouge, Vin De Pays.

Here we tried a 1997 rouge Cuvée Les 2 Monardes, very nice, and will certainly be better in 2 or 3 years. This vine grows on clay and sand, making the wine more complex. This is a nice wine with meats or provincial foods and can be held for 20 years.

The 1996 rouge Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is a very nice full bodied, powerful and well round flavor. Again, grown on clay and limestone, causing the vines to work harder, stressing them out and making a more powerful wine. These wines can be found in California.
