The Wines of the Rhône Valley
PART TWO: THE SOUTH
(continued. . .)

Christian Etienne

Restaurant Christian Etienne
Maitre Cuisinier De France
84000 Avignon

Located next to the Hotel Mercure in Avignon, we completed our stay with a dinner at Restaurant Christian Etienne. Named for the notable chef himself, Etienne was as wonderful a host as he was chef extraordinaire. The restaurant was a work of art in itself, decorated in a trendy black, white and gray motif, displaying beautiful paintings and statues, unique to any restaurant anywhere. We asked Etienne to choose the menu for us. As we sampled Demi canette de Challans rôtie, galette croquante de pommes de terre, pomme fruit sautée aux épices, and Noix de Saint Jacques pôelées, feuilles d'endives, blettes et choux en cocotte jus a la melisse, we visited with Inter Rhône President, Emmanuel Drion.
