Wines
of the Week: Arnaldo Caprai - Umbra, Italy
The
Caprai Winery enjoys a privileged position,
lying amid the Apennines and the towns of Trevi, Assisi, Spello
and Montefalco, all famous for olive oil and wine production.
The strong commitment to produce quality wines arises, in fact,
out of the region's beauty and richness. Tradition, innovation,
and territory are the key words that drive their everyday efforts.
Our panel recently sat down to taste of few of the winery's
current offerings..

Anima
Umbra 2009 Bianco IGT
Grape(s): Grechetto 85% & Trebbiano
Spoletino 15%
Price: 10-15
Review:
Aromas of green apple, pear and white flowers greet the
senses. Flavors of melon, apple, and pear combine with
floral, mineral, and herbaceous notes on the palate. A
light, fairly dry white that's clean and approachable,
it's ideal as an aperitif or to pair with white fish.

Anima
Umbra 2007 Rosso IGT
Grape(s): Sangiovese 80% & Canaiolo
20%
Price: 10-15
Review:
Aromatics of black cherry and plum meld with suggestions
of spice and dusty earth. A sip reveals tart cherry and
strawberry flavors accented by notes of leather, spice,
and earth. A bright, dry red with a light body and moderate
fruit, if you enjoy that style, this is a good value.

Grencante
Grechetto Dei Colli Martani DOC
Grape(s): Grechetto
Price: 15-20
Review:
A bouquet of green apple, almond paste, and floral notes
rise up from a glass. With a sip, flavors of apple and
pear come together with notes of white blossoms. A wine
with a crisp, fresh acidity that's balanced by a fairly
round body, pair it with chicken, veal, or swordfish.
