
                                        Calera Wines Take Two Top Spots in Wine 
                                        & Spirits 
                                        Comprehensive Tasting of 467 American 
                                        Pinot Noirs
                                          
                                        HOLLISTER, Calif., April 
                                        16 /PRNewswire/ -- Calera Wine Company, 
                                        a noted producer of Pinot Noirs, placed 
                                        two of its wines in the "Top 11" 
                                        out of 467 wines tasted by Wine & 
                                        Spirits Magazine during 2006.  Results 
                                        of this comprehensive tasting of American 
                                        Pinot Noirs were published in the April 
                                        issue of the magazine.
                                          
                                        Receiving the highest 94 point score was 
                                        the 2003 Calera Mt. Harlan Selleck Vineyard.  
                                        The 2003 Calera Mt. Harlan Jensen Vineyard 
                                        was awarded 93 points by the editors of 
                                        the New York-based publication.  
                                        Calera was the only winery to place two 
                                        wines in the "Top 11."
                                          
                                        Calera Wine Company was founded by Josh 
                                        Jensen over 30 years ago.  The distinctive 
                                        vineyards are located near the top of 
                                        a massive limestone mountain, Mt. Harlan, 
                                        near Hollister, California, a two and 
                                        a half hours drive south of San Francisco 
                                        in San Benito County.  Limestone 
                                        soil is a key factor in producing the 
                                        fine wines of Burgundy.  The very 
                                        cool climate vineyards are at a high elevation, 
                                        averaging 2200 feet, and receive little 
                                        rainfall. 
                                       
                                        As a result, the average yields of the 
                                        vineyards are less than 2 tons per acre 
                                        that contribute to the special qualities 
                                        of Calera's Pinot Noirs.  In addition 
                                        to the Selleck and Jensen vineyards, Calera 
                                        makes three other vineyard designated 
                                        Pinot Noir wines: Mills, Reed and Ryan, 
                                        a Mt. Harlan Chardonnay and Viognier and 
                                        two great value wines, a Central Coast 
                                        Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.The Selleck 
                                        and Jensen vineyards both were planted
