October 2000

The Resort Castiglione on Ichia Island in Italy

Il Guarracino Restorante

Isabella D'Angelo with Manager Vincenzo Ungar

The Il Guarracino Ristorante is located in a complex called Castiglione in a verdant valley which slopes right down to the sea, its beautiful flowers and tall pine trees give it an ideal atmosphere of calm and relaxation. A cable way connects the park "castiglione" with the Ristorante "Il Guarracino" overlooking the sea. Historians of antiquity, Strabo and Pliny the younger, as well as the famous Neapolitan physician Sasolino, have praised in their writings the natural hot springs of the Castiglio.

Castiglione is open each April to October and offers visitors the following amenities, ten swimming pools, eight of which contain thermal water with temperatures between 85 and 100 degrees, which are continuously cleaned; Olympic size swimming pool filled with sea water; private sea front areas; a natural sauna; underwater jet massages; a kneipp pool, a luxurious thermal department where it is possible to take mud baths, and receive beauty treatments and massage therapy, as well as two marvelous restaurants where you can enjoy dinner with friends.

Mr. Vincenzo Ungaro, the restaurant manager since 1997, has a long history working in the world's best restaurants. He and the chef Giuseppe Savarese offer excellent cuisine. Mr. Ungaro believes that running a restaurant is an art because, along with providing a first class cuisine, there must be a proper atmosphere to make guests feel at home and create a memorable experience for every patron. Actors, managers, politicians and members of royal households gather and meet in Ischia, a gorgeous island sitting on the rocky shore with a breathtaking view of the sea. Access is via the hotel parking or if traveling by sea, complete mooring facilities are available.

Under the careful direction of Mr. Vincenzo Ungaro and Mr. Guiseppe Savares, cooks and pastry makers renew the extraordinary Neapol cuisine with a slight international touch. They use the finest fresh fish for hors d'oeuvres, main dishes, and tasty "marine" first dishes, including Pummarola e'piennolo and linguine (all'astice) with lobster, and pastiera napoletana and rugolino liquore for a perfect finale. The wine list provides a wide selection of all the best in Italian and foreign wines.

In the evening the restaurant becomes a very romantic place, with piano music to compliment the quiet, intimate dinners or highlight a festive feeling for those who are celebrating a very special anniversary. This is the perfect place at day's end to grant yourself a moment of freedom.
