Patrick's Day Recipes: Classic Irish Soda Bread

When St. Patrick's Day
day comes around, everyone tends to feel a little Irish.
Not everyone can drink pint after pint, but everyone can
enjoy a classic Irish recipe. This version is one our
staff has enjoyed for the past few years on March 17th.

Classic
Irish Soda Bread
Ingredients:
2 cups Flour
1/2 tspn. Salt
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 tspn. Baking Soda
1/2 tspn. Baking Powder
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1/4 cup Raisins
1/4 cup Butter
1 tspn. Caraway Seed
1 Egg
Procedures:
1. Preheat oven to 375° degrees.

In a bowl, mix together flour, salt, sugar, baking soda
and baking powder.
3.
Cut in butter, then add raisins and caraway seed.
4.
Break egg into a measuring cup and add enough buttermilk
to equal 3/4 cup.
5.
Add the egg mixture to the flour. Mix until blended and
knead dough.
6.
Shape into one large or two small rounds.
7.
Make a cross on top with a knife and drizzle with melted
butter.
8.
Sprinkle lightly with sugar (if desired).
9.
Bake in a greased skillet, or on a greased cookie sheet,
until golden (about 30 minutes).
