St. Patrick's Day Recipes: Classic Irish Soda Bread
By FBWorld Team

When St. Patrick's Day day comes around, everyone tends to feel a little Irish. Not everyone can drink pint after pint, but everyone can enjoy a classic Irish recipe. This version is one our staff has enjoyed for the past few years on March 17th. Enjoy!

Classic Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients:
2 cups Flour
1/2 tspn. Salt
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 tspn. Baking Soda
1/2 tspn. Baking Powder
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1/4 cup Raisins
1/4 cup Butter
1 tspn. Caraway Seed
1 Egg

Procedures:
1. Preheat oven to 375° degrees.

2. In a bowl, mix together flour, salt, sugar, baking soda and baking powder.

3. Cut in butter, then add raisins and caraway seed.

4. Break egg into a measuring cup and add enough buttermilk to equal 3/4 cup.

5. Add the egg mixture to the flour. Mix until blended and knead dough.

6. Shape into one large or two small rounds.

7. Make a cross on top with a knife and drizzle with melted butter.

8. Sprinkle lightly with sugar (if desired).

9. Bake in a greased skillet, or on a greased cookie sheet, until golden (about 30 minutes).
